Monthly Milestones – 2 Year Update

Dear Miles,

You are TWO and an absolute joy! Your daddy and I agree – this has been the fastest two years of our lives, and definitely the most fun. You keep us on our toes and you make us laugh a lot. You’ve taught us so much in such a short time, and you’ve been very patient with us as we’ve learned. 🙂

You’re a little sponge and repeat everything we say, most notably “SHIT!” which you may have picked up from your mommy and use in perfect context. 😉 You’re an innovator, and have dubbed your uncle Tim as “Uncle,” your aunt Jenna as “Aunt” and you cousin Addilyn as “Baby.” You love your grandparents, Mama Phee, Mama Kay and Papa. When we enter the room, you say, “hi mommy” or “hi daddy” in a way that feels so adult that it makes me want to laugh and cry at the same time.

You love your BFF, Vinny (“Bibby”) and his mommy and daddy, Dave (“Daze”) and Alex (“Axe”). You get so excited when we tell you we’re going to spend time with them!

You love to read books. You communicate really well and put together four and sometimes even five-word sentences, which the doctor tells us puts you at a 3-year-old level for verbal skills! You talk a lot, which should come as no surprise… your mommy loves to talk. 😉

You’ve grown into such a big boy, weighing in at 32 lbs and 37 inches, which puts you in the 80th percentile for weigh and the 90th for height.

You still sleep like a little dream, 11 hours at night and 1-2 hours for naps. You’re now finally learning to relax on the couch (“ax”), and love to cuddle up with mommy or daddy and watch your favorite show, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse (and an emerging fave, Curious George) or read a book (or five) before bed. However, you’re only willing to cuddle if you have your cuddle-time staples: your pacifier and Hop Hop (your favorite stuffed bunny). And I’ll admit, I know I need to help you kick the pacifier habit but it makes you so happy… I can’t bring myself to do it!

You’re still a great eater. Your favorite foods include spaghetti and mac and cheese, yogurt, blueberries and corn on the cob. You also love candy (“treat?”) and granola bars, Nutrigrain bars or fruit strips, which you luckily think are “cooooookies.” Your all-time favorite treat is jelly beans, especially of the “Starburst” variety. I think you got that from me… or maybe because you’re a little Easter baby. 🙂

You love to dance and sing. You sing Happy and You Know It with gusto, clapping your hands and poking at your chubby little cheeks, and I can’t help but smile. You also love to dance/sign to Bringing Home a Baby Bumble Bee and, of course, The Hot Dog Song.

You love animals and to make animal noises. You know all of your colors. You pick up on things so quickly, most recently learning what a beach, city, mountain and ocean is!

You’re a sweet, loving little boy who gives the sweetest hugs and loves to cuddle. When mommy holds you, you play with my hair or press your cheek against mine and when daddy carries you, you pat his back. <3

You are brave, energetic and full of curiosity. You love to “GO!” no matter where we’re going, and will gladly grab your shoes (and mommy’s and daddy’s too) in order to help us get out the door. You have opinions about what you wear now, whether it be your blue or black shoes, or your Mickey shirt or coat. You’re tough and independent, and I can tell that your charismatic personality will make you a great leader some day. That said, you’re generally a great listener and are actually pretty reasonable when it comes to doing something that may not exactly be your idea. 😉

My sweet boy, I will never be able to put into words how much I adore you. But I hope you’ll know by the number of times I kiss you or lovingly whisper “I love you” in your ear. I hope you always see that mommy and daddy only want what’s best for you, and would literally do anything to give you an amazing and happy life.

I can’t wait to see you as a big brother this year. I know there will be many joyful moments that I’ll want to remember forever. Some will be ornery, some will be sweet… and all will be amazing.

My only request: stop growing up so fast. And get used to the fact that you’ll always be my baby.
