Hi, I’m Melissa!

 

I’m a working mom of two boys, a wife, a social butterfly, a writer and a little bit of a web geek trying desperately to do it all (aren’t we all?). But most of all, I am your  mommy bff, here to lend a helping hand and to let you know that you’re not alone when you feel like your head’s about to spin off.

I started Mommy BFF because I know what it’s like to be pulled in a thousand different directions, to be tired every minute of the day, and to have more caffeine in my veins than blood (and sometimes some wine mixed in there too). I know that sometimes, you may feel like you’re drowning and I’m here to tell you that’s ok – even normal. That’s why I’m here – to help you find ways to make your mommy-life a little easier.

Here’s my story…

Mommy BFF was born when I went back to work after having my first son. It was the first time I’d worked out of the home in three years (I had a full time work-from-home job prior to my pregnancy) and let’s just say, it was a major adjustment period. Not only was I learning a new industry and type of work, but my son had begun teething on top of a major sleep regression that had me sleeping little and basically walking around in a sleep-deprived haze.

Laundry was piling up, my husband and I barely had time to talk and I was starting to wonder if I’d made a mistake by heading back into corporate America at this point in my life. One morning, as I was rushing around to get ready after my son had woken up early again, I thought to myself, “I can’t do this – I can’t do it all.”

I was sitting bleary-eyed at my computer later that day, trying to find some encouragement online, specifically for working mothers. I wanted resources and tips on how to make it easier. I wanted encouragement for the bad days. I wanted a community to talk to.

I just wanted something that would help… and I found nothing. Sure, there were funny  articles out there from moms. And  bloggers who sometimes touched on problems that I faced. But there wasn’t any consistent advice out there from someone who knew – no resources that said:

Here’s how to meal plan without spending what little freedom you have grocery shopping and prepping.

Here’s how to look put together when most of your clothes are covered in spit-up.

Here’s how to find time to workout when you already get up before dawn and can barely keep your eyes open at night.

Here’s some easy dessert recipes for those incessant work potlucks that won’t make you swear the whole time you’re making them (at 9 p.m. when you just want to sit on the couch with a glass of wine and watch your DVR).

…. you get the idea.

And that’s when the light bulb went off. I could be that resource. I could help other moms like me keep their heads above water. I could figure it out… and then I could share it.

And thus began a period of trial and error, in which I documented how to streamline processes to make the lives of mommies like me a little easier. I made notes on my phone. I started lists and Pinterest boards. And I’m still doing it, constantly.

If you’re reading this, it’s because you, too, are looking for something… anything to help make it easier. You’re looking for a mommy bff to understand, to hold your hand, and to offer you a little help in a world where it’s very easy to feel alone.

You don’t have to be a working mom. You don’t even have to be a mom. You just have to be a busy caretaker who wants (and needs) to find a little balance.
